Plunkett returned to Western Mass to write the record and confront her past, which resulted in some of her most bracingly raw lyrics, as she sings about her shape-shifting moods and repressed memories from childhood, particularly surrounding her parents’ divorce. Plunkett is an animated storyteller. She’s both sage and light-hearted, and she has a way of expressing awe and excitement over, say, author Maggie Nelson’s Bluets or the Hall of Gems at the American Natural History Museum that suggests she’s embodying three exclamation points at once." - Pitchfork Magazine
